Mr. Ramirez is now in his 4th year as the Kempner High School Head Theatre Director, and he truly enjoys igniting the creativity of young actors and technicians. He caught the theatre/acting/tech/film bug when he finally found a place he fit in — his high school theatre department. That was many, many, moons ago at Ball High School in Galveston, TX as a member of Troupe #1342. He received a B.S. in Radio/TV/Film from The University of Texas at Austin, and later completed the post-baccalaureate Theatre Studies program, again at UT Austin. He has worked in many elements of production — performance and tech — and loves doing his part to help put Kempner High School Theatre and FBISD HS Theatre on the map of Texas theatre education. Mr. Ramirez is extremely proud of all of the accomplishments of his students, both in and out of theatre. When not teaching or working on shows, he can usually be found trying to invent new ways to eat Funyuns™.
Ms. Smith is excited to join the KHS Theatre Department! She has achieved an Associates of Fine Arts degree from Houston Community College and her Bachelor of Fine Arts - Theatre Production degree from the University of Houston in 2011. During her education years, she has worked with Houston Grand Opera, Bayou City Concerts Musicals, and various community theatre programs. She lead a theatre camp for 3 years with the University of Houston. Recently, she completed 4 seasons at the Alley Theatre as a staff stage management associate where she found her true purpose of combining her passion for theatre and educating youth. Ms. Smith is beyond grateful to return to the school district where she graduated high school (Elkins), it all comes full circle! This year will be filled with lots of productive work, energy, and laughs!!
